Service
is easy
as pie, as
this stellar 1999 TX model is propelled by the same reliable four-cylinder gasoline
powerplant we received Stateside, powering our venerable
4Runners and
Tacomas.
Underpinned by a surefooted full-time 4WD system, these rigs make for ideal year-round daily drivers that can pull double duty on some trails or at the beach. Finished in a classic Silver Moss (KR5), this terrific Toyota is set off by an OEM bash bar, TERZO cross bars, and a set of black D-Window wheels. Aside from a few light imperfections, the paint is in good nick, and this truck is fresh off a recent service. Boasting only 118k verified and documented miles on the ticker, this hauler has tons of life left in it. Tough, trustworthy, spacious, and safe, this turnkey Japanese Classic can be yours today!
Interior Overview
The cabin is spacious, well-optioned, and includes more premium materials than most vehicles in this class. Access is seemless thanks to functional keyless entry. Dual SRS airbags are standard equipment, and Toyota improved the side impact protection over the generation Prado that preceded it. The dashboard lacks any cracking or fading, and a large OEM field monitor is situated front and center atop it. The unit returns info about the outside conditions, should you lose cell service. The center stack is close by and within arm’s reach. It’s dominated by a large touchscreen Kenwood headinit that pipes in the tunes to supplement your motoring experience. Below, the automatic climate control system is ready to
filter in
piping hot heat or cold A/C. If you prefer more natural ventilation, a large panoramic moonroof tilts and retracts, and the side windows can power down to add some airflow. Even the rear quarter glass butterflies outward, which is nice to have when camping or catching a catnap in the back. The seats are trimmed in a durable and soft gray and blue cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears, and the same material is mirrored in the door cards. The headliner and carpets are in fair shape, and aside from some light damage from the seatbelt on the driver’s door card, there is little to complain about within the cockpit. We even have a spare key that’s included with the purchase of this fine rig!
Mechanical Overview
Under the skin, this Prado is very closely related to the 4Runner. That’s why parts and service options are readily available. The 3RZ-FE engine is fresh off an oil and filter service. A new 12-volt battery ensures quick ignition, and we installed some new spark plugs, a new engine air filter, and a new fuel filter as part of our tune-up. A new set of accessory belts keeps your electronics reliably powered, and the four-banger runs right as rain. It’s linked to a stout automatic gearbox that shifts just as it should. A transmission fluid service was performed while it was on the lift to keep it shifting properly. It feeds torque through a full time 4WD transfer case. A center locker and low range are on hand should the going get tough, and these rigs are beasts off the beaten path. The driveline was refreshed with new CV shafts, and a new front right axle seal. We also refreshed the suspension with new rear shocks. The ride quality is refined, and the long wheelbase is ideal for high-speed stability. The ABS brakes feel confident, and the power steering is light and easy to
articulate.
New inner and outer tie rods were installed to dial in a proper alignment, and this hauler tracks straight as an arrow. Grip comes from four nearly new Falken tires.
Turn key
and ready to roll, this stylish SUV can be yours today!
